FAQS

How do you pronounce your blog name, what does it mean and why did you choose it?
My blog name is based upon my first name and one of my middle names. I picked it because I didn't think there would be an existing blog with that name and honestly, it was because I didn't have any better ideas! I've grown to like it. It's pronounced "taysh ma-zo-ee". We're unsure on what my first name means but "mazoe" is a part of Zimbabwe where they grow citrus fruits! It's also a brand of squash.

What ethnicity are you?
I get this question so much! I'm half Chinese, half British. My Mum was born in Hong Kong and my Dad was born in England. Eurasians ftw!

What do you plan to do with your degree after you graduate?
I would say that this is the most common question people in their final year of study get! I am trying to build up work experience currently before applying for opportunities. That is because the role that I'm looking at is very competitive. Watch this space!
I also really want to teach sex education! I am hoping to find an organisation/charity I could volunteer with once I have graduated, on top of my full time job.

Why did you pick your course?
I studied philosophy of religion and religious ethics as an A-Level at sixth form (the course was called Philosophy & Ethics). I really enjoyed both subjects, and decided they would be perfect to study as a degree. My course combines religion with both philosophy & ethics, which is why I preferred it to plain theology, plain philosophy, or a joint honours theology and philosophy degree.

Where did you live in first year? Were you in halls?
I was! I lived in Liberty Garden for my first year, which used to be called 'the Beeches'. It's off campus accommodation, further into the centre of Birmingham than the student villages. It's owned by a private company called Liberty Living.

Where did you live in second year?
I lived in a privately rented house with five house-mates, four girls, one guy! It was around 20 minutes walk from the centre of campus and we found the house through purplefrog (who are a lettings company).

Where do you live now?
I now live in a privately rented house with four house-mates, one girl, three guys. It's not on the same road that I was on before, but it is in the same area. I actually stuck with the same landlord, but it is a different house.

Which universities did you apply to? What were your offers?
I applied to the University of Leeds, the University of Essex, the University of Kent, the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Birmingham.
I was lucky enough to be given offers from all five of the universities I applied to, and these offers differed quite a lot. In the end I put Birmingham as my firm choice and didn't put down an insurance choice - risky!

I'm really nervous that I won't meet the requirement for my university choices, which grades did you need?
My offer from Birmingham was for ABB, that's what I was predicted after my AS results (I had to retake one module in January to take me from a C to a B). However, I actually only achieved ACC at A2. I was still accepted by the university on results day.

Are you involved with any societies or sports?
I am! I was actually on the committee for the blood donation society at the University of Birmingham, called 'BloodSoc', and also set up and chaired a HIV/Sexual Health society called 'Chasing Zero'. On top of that I've also been to events for the bone marrow society 'MarrowSoc', as well as 'Sexpression' and I'm a member of the society for my course 'PRE Soc'.
Sports, however, are not my thing. Count me out!
